What equipment should I bring to paranormal investigation?

On October 30th, through 31st, I аm рlοttіng οn јυѕt going tο look
through mу town cemetery fοr paranormal activity. I аm very curious аbουt ghosts, аnd I hope tο find ghosts οn camera.

If ѕο, whаt equipment wουld bе de rigueur, аnd helpful fοr mу investigation. Thеу аlѕο close thе gates аt dаrk ѕο I mіght hаνе tο sneak іn аnd out, οr stay overnight wіth/lacking permission.

    Tape Recorder, Record Cam,
    Candles and flash cam

  • goatslunch:

An ancient cam recorder which is permanetly shakey and out of focus.

  • Tomb Raider:

You will need a camera to snap photos,a tape recorder for evp’s a emf detector,a record camera,a flash light and back up batteries for all of the equipment.Entities can drain batteries,a lot of paranormal investigators always have back ups because this often happens.Hope this helps you out and you get some sort of evidence.Excellent luck, come back and let us all know if you happen to experience anything unusual, excellent luck!

    Record Camera
    Camera with/with out flash
    Any kind of sound recorder
Flash Light, hurricane lantern, candle, whatever (with superfluous batteries)
and a getaway car in case the ghosts start chasing you!

Being a knowledge based paranormal investigator for myself, I would bring a record camera, emf detector K2 meter and an audio recorder…some say it is best to use an ancient style mini tape recorder because it is theorized that spirits are more likely to embed noises on tape (I use a digital cause I can never get any quality out of a tape recorder) a compass (they have known to get a modest squirrely around paranormal energy – OR MAGNETS) and of course a camera.

(and NO that round ball floating on your pics is NOT AN ORB!! and that anomaly that looks like ectoplasm is NOT ectoplasm) Cameras are always used in investigations but IMHO 99.9% of stuff caught in pics is bugs dust or light reflected on the lens)

If you are doing an investigation outside remember that noises carry and that howl you just heard could be 2 cats facing off a block away. Doing an outdoor investigation (IMHO-again) is next to impossible because evidence is highly suspect of being fouled by the surroundings.

I despise to be a huge buzz kill here but I have never heard of any legitimate haunting of a graveyard or cemetery. If you reflect about it people show up at a cemetery already dead so it is very unlikely that any residual energy/spirit/being would have a strong connection with that location.

    WARNING**
Your discussion about going to a cemetery after dark on Halloween – chances are your gonna get your a** thrown in the back of a cop car. I know that probably won’t stop you….just be respectful of where you are. It’s people like you who give us legit paranormal investigators a terrible rap.

****Some might suggest a thermometer (I never ever leave home lacking it :) but it would be perfectly useless outside

  • Two Barrel:

place note on your car saying i ran out of gas.then take a gas can with you .hide the can .

  • Zaphod Beeblebrox:

Since there is no known equipment that has ever recorded credible scientific evidence that paranormal phenomenon exist,……

I will say just bring a flashlight, a warm jacket and a snack.

everything else will pretty much be useless.

  • Josh C:

First, try to get permission, because it is when people get caught in cemeteries, it gives the rest of us a terrible rap because then people reflect we all do that, and that we are in there for malicious reasons.

Following, for a cemetery, map it out first previous to you go in, because if you don’t know it well enough, you could fall in an open grave, which happens to be a nice 6 foot drop, so be careful. Bring a lot of batteries, and when you reflect you got enough, get some more. A disposable camera is excellent enough for an investigation of this scenery. Flashlight is a must, if you have an emf meter, use it, as well as a compass, it can back up something that your emf meter may…or may not read. A voice recorder of some kind will also suffice, and if you have one, get an ancient radio that uses batteries, turn it to an ancient radio station that don’t come in and use that as colorless noise. The ghosts allegedly use the the energy to manifest.

Most of all, bring someone with you, not only for protection but to help confirm or provide a rational explanation for something that you saw/reflect you saw.

ABOVE ALL, DON’T GET CUAGHT AND ARRESTED. Cannot stress it enough, reasons people are slowly banning instigations from cemeteries and locking them more at night is because of people breaking in them and doing harm or being in there when they aren’t supposed to. There are some fantastic places that don’t even want paranormal researchers even in there at all because of things that kids or reckless people have done.

Is the place even nervous? Is there reasons that you want to go in there, other than the fact that it is a cemetery and it looks nervous? Find these things out because going to jail for a wild ghost chase is not worth it. It could forever ruin your reputation as a reputable ghost researcher and stop people from even letting you or a group that you may be in someday from even getting places because they may remember you from the police report from the town newspaper.

I know you probably won’t be able to have some things just available to you but:
Camera and tape/digital recorder are a must.
    EMF Meter can help.
Compass and thermometer can also determine changes in your surroundings, involving the paranormal at times.
A pad and pen to confirmation your findings/events/etc.
    Flashlight!!
Candles if wanted- and a lighter/matches.
    Batteries and back-up batteries!!
    Camcorder

Jacket, water, snacks, blanket, mobile on silent if you’re staying for a while.

I can’t seem to reflect of anything else at the moment. Best of luck to you!!

  • Morrigan:

Usually, cemeteries close at dusk. If you plot to be out past that, be aware that you may be considered trespassing.
Other than permission, let someone know where you are going if you plot to go alone.
Take flashlights, (LOTS of superfluous batteries), any camera either digital or film, pad & pen, your ID, and maybe something to confirmation with, either a digital voice recorder or even use the recorder on your cell phone. My son got an incredible evp using his phone.
I’ve had much success using a simple compass; $3 from WalMart – much cheaper than an emf meter.
At times, I’ve used “trigger objects” on investigations, like music from the era the house was built I’m investigating, ancient dolls or toys, tools, etc. I don’t know what you could take to a cemetery except maybe music. I’ve had a lot of success using triggers.
And remember, respect the cemetery and those laid to rest there.

Firstly, best not to go alone if you can help it… for one, there may be other people who use the cemetry for unsavoury dealings and you could place yourself in danger also if you trip or fall and injure yourself, there will be no-one around, also, 2 people can confirmation paranormal events and then things can be properly seconded… after all, if someone tells you that they saw a ghost it can be a trick of the mind, if 2 people saw the same thing and told you… you’d be more inclined to believe it.
If you’re sneaking in and will be there all night (although this is not advisable), you will need warm and dark clothes, 2/3 layers should do it. Just try not to wear alot of synthetic layers as these can build up static charge which may have an adverse effect on your equipment. Also take a rain mac… after all, you never know!

Then, a CAMERA/VIDEO CAMERA.. either one that has a flash or, you can use an IR floodlight with some digital models. (To check if your camera or camcorder can see IR, point a remote contol at the veiw-finder and if it can be seen as a bluish light then your model can be used in the dark with an IR floodlight).
It’s always excellent to have a DIGITAL WATCH with a backlight so you can confirmation times of the happenings.
    PEN
    PAPER
    CLIPBOARD
    DIGITAL VOICE RECORDER
    ANALOGUE VOICE RECORDER
    THERMOMETER
FLASHLIGHT – Best if you can get some red film, maybe a clear red candy wrapper, to cover the beam. This will stop the light from affecting your eyes too much and will help you keep your night vision for longer. (also it will be less noticeable from outside)
FOOD – High sugar content foods such as chocolate and glucose drinks… try and avoid caffeine as it can alter your mind-state and cause hallucinations.
DRINK – Try and take a thermos of tea or hot chocolate… this will help keep you warm on your vigil.
MOBILE PHONE/CELLPHONE – if you need help or get into distress
BATTERIES – always excellent to carry a few spares
EMF METER – if you have one… sometimes cables can be laid in some very extraordinary places and this would help you to find anomalies in the EMF

I would advise also that you tell someone where you are going and arrange to call/meet them at a time you can keep on the day after your vigil. SAFETY FIRST!

RESEARCH… do some investigate after your investigation into experiences that others have had in the same location. This information can be found at your local library and in the archives of your local newspaper as well as local legends/tales. these will help you if you want to write-up your findings.

If you need any more info about ghost hunting or any advice I would be glad to help.

    Excellent luck mate,

Ouch, I despise to spoil your fun, but spriits rarely hang out in the cemetary. More often they have went on or if they are still earth bound, they are in the surroundings where they died.

I would suggest that you learn about paranormal investigation from a group of people who already have experience and go about it from a scientific sort of way.

You have no experience. Please don’t be a meeting duck for other young adulthood who will go to the graveyard and scare you to death perhaps.

Be safe and learn from others who have already been in the field.
