Is Abe’s of Maine a trusty source for buying photography equipment?
I аm рlοttіng tο bυу thеіr package whісh includes a Canon rebel XS wіth two lenses аnd a bunch οf οthеr stuff. Bυt many οf thеіr reviews ѕау thеу aren’t friendly. Thе οthеr reviews bυt, аrе brilliant…
Anyone tried thеm?
No, I have not tried them, and will not. There are excellent reviews, … and quite a lot of terrible reviews. You can usually figure for every one terrible review that one person bothers to write, there are likely many, many more people who never speak up, or don’t know of the site, or whatever. Sometimes the less than honest sellers will also post bogus excellent reviews to sites such as Reseller Ratings.

When in doubt, don’t do it.
There are two sources where you NEVER have to worry. B-H and Adorama. Also, Porters is brilliant, though their prices are higher.
I suggest you only order from any of the 3 vendors above and you will be assured of no harms.

I agree with Steve about B&H and Adorama. I buy from both of them and have had brilliant experiences with each. I place of protection’t bought from Abe’s of Maine.
Also, I have bought photo equipment from Amazon. Prices are usually brilliant, and you can read reviews from other people. Adorama also sells their stuff through amazon.
The red flag I see in your question is the “two lenses and a bunch of other stuff”. From my experience, when”stuff” is bundled with a camera by the store, the stuff is usually of following-rate quality. Wouldn’t you rather shop for the items you really need and choose them yourself, instead of having the store choose a set of items for you?
