all NGs get the same things…… unless your going over to the middle east then ….. there’s just less fire power

In general reserve and Guard units get the ‘hand me downs’ from the active duty army. For example: the Guard will have M16A2s while the active folks will have the M4s.

Getting handmedowns isnt the case anymore. In fact it seems like the Guard is getting better equipment than the regular army.

When i was activated for OIF2-3 we were run through the RFI(Rapid Fielding Initiative) program. It’s a program designed to get the NG and capital up to speed with active duty considering all the deployments. It removes the middle man of investigate and development, and instead buys products off the shelf that soldiers are using overseas anyways(ie wileyx glasses, hatch gloves, etc) .

My unit was the first in the army to field the EOtech holographic sight system for instance. And now on my current deployment, the unit im in now got some of the first issue of IOTV to replace the IBAs.Im watching tons of actve duty walking around who deployed recently who still have IBA’s.

The Guard was just fielded a groundbreaking new chopper as of a few weeks ago called the Lakota. The active duty, as far as i know, doesnt even have it yet.

The face of the guard and capital is MUCH different than it was previous to the gulf war.

First correction – the States DO NOT fund equipment procurement, all MTOE equipment is funded through the Program Objective Memorandum (POM) cycle. Been there, done it at NGB.

All MTOEs are USAFMSA driven and are built on activation dates, I have looked at nearly every SRC/MTOE and other than some engineer LINs and the timeliness of fielding some NVG lines as well as some of the more unique electronic equipment – there is virtually no difference between AC/RC in equipping by LIN.

Now if you wish to take a look at the age of the equipment, then that is a different tale for example M916 versus M916A2.

Granted there is a delta between on-hand requirements and actual, the procurement gap is closing. You have to remember that the Reserve Component was funded to S-3 of its equipment requirement during the Clinton era. It takes three years from budget programming, to building it to really having it on-hand. This collective with the Modularity Force structure and the leaving behind of X percentage of equipment made the problem.

I have listed Sen Durbin’s comments on the IL ARNG equipment status. You won’t find any other details because its considered classified.

I hope that answers your question.
